Arrived about 5:15 PM. Hid the truck just off an old logging road. Walked 3/4 mile to a hidden field in the back of my place. Walked to the edge of the field and called softly. Just like clockwork ... got a GOBBLE !!!. Told my daughter to get ready. This was her first turkey hunt and we have been practicing being still. Backed up on the road that led to the field and set down beside a nice Oak. Called again and the Gobble was closer! Called once more and saw a white head along the woodline. A jake came right in down the logging road. Stopped and looked around. I heard something to the left and looked to see this long- beard coming through the woods strutting and spitting. My 9 year had a birds eye view and was still as a mouse. I whispered to her that I was going to shoot when the bid one got out into the road. 10 seconds 35 yards later..............

I think God put this tree here just for this moment. It made a perfect hiding place for me and my daughter. She sat on the cushion and I sat on the fallen log to her Rt.

Nice

I read the thread title and I assumed you meant a cat of some description. I didn't know a tom could be a turkey. Got to say i'm a little jelous of the hunting/trapping opportunities you folks have, but then we have some of the best Red Deer in the world where I am so I guess you can't have everything.

Cheers :drink:

Congratulations, nothing beats time with your kids no matter what you are doing; great to see children being introduced to the outdoor sports.

Nice Mike! Are you gonna get it mounted? That mount could be a memory for your daughter as long as she lives. There are certainly no shortage of big beautiful Toms in North Texas. I think we have a big flock that knows where every corn feeder in the neighborhood is located. They just wonder from feeder to feeder while scratching and eating bugs. When they get to a feeder, they get a little dessert and then move on.

Really nice! and great story. Been a slow year for turkey from what I have heard on the hunting forums pretty much state wide. Should get better as the season matures.

Yes sir! That's what it's all about. Spring turkey is my favorite hunt. I have 7 and 9 yo daughters and can't wait to get them out spring turkey hunting. The "remain still" is still an issue with both of them. Love to see your photo's. That's a memory for both of you for sure. Congrats to both of you and especially your girl for "remaining still"! Good on her!

Very cool, with such success on your first turkey hunt together, bet it won't be difficult to get her to keep comin' along.
