Hi all. I am needing to change oil in my PTO powered. self contained hydraulic, 3Pt Hitch Backhoe. The manual I have says to use 10w40 for warm climates and 10w30 or Straight 30 wt for colder climates. I was surprised to see a motor oil spec'd and not some type of Hydraulic oil. Is there a wear component that the motor oil tries to address, or maybe just easier to find the oil. The filter is a hydraulic oil filter, More expensive than a regular car filter, but not bad. I have a Scag Zero Turn mower that spec's 20w50 for the Hydraulic drives for that thing as well. Not sure if I am missing something or not...
Also the manual does not indicate how much oil it takes to fill the reservoir. It just says to fill to the line on the dipstick... Any ideas on how much this might take??? And what type of oil other users would suggest.
BTW, Great Bend was apparently bought out by Bush hog. From what I can tell on the Bush hog web site. They indicate using a Hydraulic oil in their similar application type equipment...
