I got at least part of a day without rain, and I headed into the woods with the chipper. Hard to tell from the photo's, but the woods are so thick with underbrush, it's hard to walk through them. I have the Jinma 6" Chipper, I used to use it on my TC30, which handled it really well, but you did know you had a lot of weight in back. With the new T2320, you don't know it's back there, the tractor never lugs at all, and I keep it off the ground to keep the PTO shaft straight. I also use my DR Brush mower, which complements the tractor really well. I pull into an area, cut all the big brush off at the ground and chip it, I then run over the area with the DR. It cuts everything in it's path, and does not compact the soil like the tractor. Perfect pair, just need nicer weather and lot's of time, 15 acres more to clear.

I will be logging the alder later this year, and will be replanting with a mixture of Cedar, Alder and Douglas Fir, so the brush clean-up now will help the logging and re-planting activity. I will start a thread on the logging, when it starts. I have hired a forestry consultant, have created my Forest Stewarship Plan and am working with the Forest Service on permits.

Nice looking rig. I especially like the look of the grapple. Guess I am going to have to break down and try to build one for the JD5300.

I had read great things about grapples, but I can tell you after having used it, my bucket won't see much action. I have lots of downed wood, it is great to just grab them and move them to a central pile.

My grapple spends vastly more time on my tractor than the bucket. Incredibly useful piece of equipment.

alder is getting more $$ per bd ft than cedar and fir around here. what part of WA are you in, definately looks like your west of the cascades.. nice looking setup, especially like that grapple.

I am in Western Washington. With the price of Alder, it will pay for my property, which I have owned for 8 years. I am also looking forward to replanting a mixture of Alder and Evergreens.

It's interesting, every time I am use my tractor, it never seems like work. If I keep that in mind, I have lots of fun ahead of me :)

that's a good way to pay for it, they grow like weeds around here. i found a 10 acre piece of land nearby that is full of alders but the land prices now compared to 8 years ago, there is no way enough timber to pay for it... i've actually got my eye on 40 acres in the tonasket area, quite a bit drier and a good place for retirement, i'm thinking..

Don't you experience a lot of torque action with the chipper being suspended off the 3PH?

I put two pieces of 6X6 under the chipper. That is the height needed to keep the PTO straight. It also allows the chipper to rest on a solid base, less wear and tear on the 3PH. When moving, I carry the blocks in the feed chute.

Good luck with your project and HAVE FUN!
