Hi Everyone,
I am a noob farmer, so when I bought a great plains solid stand 13 from the local John Deere dealer I was really at their mercy since I knew next to nothing! I had read that the discs need to be good, so I had them put on new disks.
Anyway I went about 40 acres before it stopped putting out seed, and a few more before I figured out the gearbox had split open. Turns out it had previously failed and was held together with baling wire instead of any bolts on the bushings at the end of the gear shafts.
This is the early version with a gearbox before they went to an open gear system.
I was real bummed because the gearbox and open gear system are pretty much a thing of the past.
So I brought the gearbox to a friend of mine and his friend asked what is that out of? It looks like a gearbox from a riding lawnmower. Sure enough, that is what it is, without reverse.
I found a gearbox for a DR Power at2 at2 with the final drive gear on ebay and with a few mods moving holes a bit and a new #40 chain this is going to fix me up.
