Hey Folks...time to turn you guys loose and gather some opinions. I'm getting close to signing and still can't make up my mind.

Here's the two top runners...

JD4410-ePowrReverser-430 loader-R4s
or
NHTC35D-hydro-16LA loader-R4s

I know its kinda like comparing apples to blueberries but with the new JD ePowrReverser the forward reverse shifting will be no effort. I didn't think I wanted the hydro on the NH but the other goodies that come with the hydro package have some appeal. Right now the prices are almost equal. I do like the larger physical size of the NH, but wonder if creature conforts on the JD ( easy loader detach, quick-tatch bucket, and 'e' controls ) make it more desirable and compensate for a little smaller size. My primary uses will be rough field mowing ( 7 acres of weeds, grasses ), snow removal, and general yard/landscape work. Nothing too demanding !

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

I do agree that Orange has an acceptable product with the "L" series. I really like the GST on the L that I borrow from my freind. The problem...I don't have access to a good dealer and I don't want to end up travelling everytime I need something. The NH dealer is only 7 miles away and the JD dealer is about 15. getting to a good Kubota dealer will take about an hour.

Go to both dealers and try both tractor out, have them show you how to take the loaders off of both of them and try it yourself as well. Drive them around for a little bit and decide which is most comfortable. As far as transmissions go I have always been for gear transmissions especially since they don't have hydros in larger tractors. I have a shuttle transmission on my TN and you just push in the clutch and move the lever forwards or reverse, NH had the power reverser option that is a little lever mounted under the steering wheel that you flipped without using the clutch but like the hydro trannys I figure it is more to go wrong and I don't mind moving my left foot as it keeps it from going to sleep. Last thing is find which dealer treats you best and who you would like to do warranty service on your machine. Have fun and let us know what you decide.

I have been comparing all 3 major brands for a while now. After reading this board for the last 2 years and going to all of the dealers around. It finally came down to the JD 4410 and the NH TC 40D, both in hydro, for me.

For me, the size issue was the opposite, I was afraid the NH might be physically too large, but thought it had the better features. It strikes me as odd the creature comforts you have listed in JD's favor. To me, the NH had the best creature comforts: the best seat, the easiest controls, and the easiest quick attach bucket (the skid-steer style quick attach bucket at least). Granted, the JD loader went on/off easier.

So I guess you can tell which way I finally decided. I ordered a TC 40D today /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I chose the 40D over the 35D you're looking at just for the 4 cylinder engine.

But, for your needs you've listed, I think I might lean a little toward the JD. Both for the size and for the fact you say you don't really want a hydro. Suprisingly, the quotes I got for JD were actually a little cheaper than I got for a 35D, which wasn't what I expected.

Snooper,

I agree with Robert, try each out, both are good machines. I have a 4400 sync-reverser that I couldn't be more pleased with.

Like the rest of us, I had shopped all the major brands, and my decision was helped along by the my local JD & NH dealers. The JD dealer is terrific, the NH dealer couldn't be bothered, even with multiple visits!

Good luck with your decision - keep us posted!

Mike
