Best be a reallly good broker to afford being a farmer! LOL
I'm learning...raised turkeys for meat...cost w/o labor was $2.80 lb. If i'd butcherd it would still be $2.25. We already have chickens (most expensive eggs on earth!) so no investment in housing and such.
I can buy hay for $3.75/bale. I could make it myself for $5500 a year, or buy it for $3750. That assume my time is wroth $15/hour and I own the land already.
I don't know how 'real' farmers do it!
But it is FUN! And more excersize than a gym membership
