To the TBN forum Doc. Glad that you finally joined so that we can get to know you.

So, where are you located? How much land are you working and what are you raising beside dust?

Thanks for all the welcoming messages.

I live in northern Virginia on an 800' high foothill of the Blue Ridge mountains. I needed the Kubota MX5800 because it gets steep pretty quick and dragging a 6' box blade uphill takes almost everything the tractor has. It is my first tractor and the reason I often visit TBN. I cannot afford to damage myself and equipment trying to learn by spending too much time in the school of hard knocks.

I have about 35 well forested acres and I am working another 15+ acres to get the junk timber and invasive stuff out and put in some diversity and value for my kids or grand kids to harvest. I am off to a good start and at this rate it will take me the rest of my life. The tree farm name had been decided already, and the coincidence of the initials was unintended and gave me a good laugh. I want to get some t-shirts made for Christmas!

Hope the rest of your life is a loooong time.

You've come to the right place for info. Please be careful on those steep slopes. keep your front bucket as low as you can to keep center of gravity low. Buckle up with roll bar too.

Me too - I have lots to do! Like teaching my grand kids bad habits and how to ride a zip line.

You are right about staying safe on the slopes. I stay 'low and buckled' because most places I would have several rolls before coming to a stop at a 'not very soft' tree line. A couple of early close calls quickly taught me how close tipping points can be - both front and back, and to the side. As with many things, a loss of situational awareness can have severe consequences...
