New member here from Quitman Ga., mainly run tractors helping my uncle maintain his farm, 220 acres of planted pines that he maintains for family to hunt on, lots of mowing to do. Really joined though due to welding section, saw a few links on another forum I'm on and have been reading through them for last few days.
Most of my mechanical knowledge I learned working on equipment my dad owned. Working on small engines and equipment he used as a young teenager led to working on my own vehicles and others as I got my drivers license, then slowly led into maintaining and running equipment on a quail plantation straight out of high school. The property was owned by a private timber company, and got to run forestry equipment like skidder and dozers on it, as well as work on them. That led to running and working on equipment on family's contracting business for 14 years, mostly mowing tractors but also some construction equipment, mainly backhoes and front end loaders.
I now work in the trucking business full time, but still work on and use tractors a good bit on the side, so loks lime a found a good place to improve my knowledge, as I said, most learning I got, other than welding was simply OJT, and sometimes not through the greatest teachers. In all this time , I also became a volunteer firefighter, proudly serving as Chief since 2008.
User name is partly my nickname, a classmate who became a good friend came up with scruffy as a nickname for me, first added my last name when I first got onto another forum a few years ago, scruffy was too short as username, so added my last. There are many people who know me, both personally and professionally , who continue to call me by my nickname. Sorry so long, guess here I need to explain more about me than on otner sites.
