I've been here about 6 days now... hot... hot... hot. Went for a walk on the beach of the South China Sea this morning. Already getting tired of rice and fish but the San Miguel beer never gets old. Will return to Virginia once the cold weather is over. Don't plan on pushing any snow this year. Visited Subic Bay Freeport Duty Free a couple days ago and stocked up on some stateside bourbon. A bottle of the local stuff is about .80 cents but not as good. Plan to travel the country for the next couple of weeks.

Welcome mjarrels.
Sounds like you could use some old fashion country cooking. :)...and do jump right on in when you feel like it.

Ah, the PI!

Subic Bay was our home port while I was on a pacific cruise with the 12th Marines. Probably spent a total of 3 months there.

A beautiful area, some beautiful people, and at the time (1973) an electric night life for a single guy! At that time also, the girls LOVED American GI's.

We drank gallons of San Miguel. I don't think they had quality control at the time, cuz one bottle would be watery, and the next tasted like 20% alcohol.

Took a USO tour of Marcos's Summer Home: Impressive.

It was martial law when I was there, so at 11:55PM, there would be thousands of people in the street going from club to club, but at 12:01AM, you could shoot down the street and not hit anyone--anyone out after the midnight curfew was arrested.

I'd like to go back someday for a visit.

RonR,

I spent almost 4 years at NAS Cubi Point many years ago... know the area fairly well. Was here when the Marcos Government was overthrown. Very interesting experience. Off to Manila today. Banuae rice terraces next week. Saw a shipwreck off the beach this morning while riding a banca boat.
