Tractor
1946 Ford Ferguson
Hi from near Asheville, NC

Our 1946 (1947?) Ford Ferguson gasoline 2WD has been a reliable tractor
for longer than my lifetime, used every year for light farm
chores, mainly now bushhog. We want a 4WD and are
looking at the grey market Yanmar 3110D or FX335 to upgrade.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. There is a dealer in Fairview,
NC that has some positive feedback on the web so we
(me and my 82 year old Dad) will be checking him out soon.

If we had 4WD, we would probably keep our existing machine.

Thanks,
Richard

Welcome to TBN!
I'm your neighbor on the other side of the Smoky Mountains in TN.
I've got a 4wd tractor and love it, but there is a lot of work I do in 2wd. Just wondering how come you need 4wd now since it sounds like 2wd has been working OK for a long time? Is it all the rain we got this year?
I'm not familiar with Yanmars, someone else will have to help out there. Good luck!

My dad, now 82 yrs young, is doing more bush-hogging: closer to
the creek, further up the hill, etc. The 1946 Ford has
a foot clutch and brake on one side, so both cannot be used at once,
hence if the clutch side wheel is spinning, you cannot brake it and
use the clutch at the same time, unless you have three legs !
So the desire to get a 4WD next time, to more easily get out
of tight spots. He has to get a friend to tow him at least once a
season after getting stuck, not all that easy as his friends are
around his age.

I guess it is a luxury he has earned, in the end.

Thanks for your reply. Looking forward to riding my motorcycle
down to TN one of these days.

Newer tractors have both brakes on the same side, plus they have a locking diff.which makes a world of differance.I'M DOWN HERE IN THE FOOTHILLS,BUT 2WD STILL WORKS FOR ME.

Welcome aboard! I spend my vacations on both sides of the Smokies. Must be beautiful about now with the trees.
