I just bought a Massey-Ferguson 1635 with a cab after a lot of searching. This site was very helpful in making this selection, as I really wanted a bigger horsepower, but came to realize that a. I could do whatever I wanted with a 35 hp tractor, as I only have 12.5 fairly level acres and b. in going from this size to the next size, the implements jump up in price significantly.
I initially looked at Kubotas, as there is a lot of good press about their reliability and awesome financing. However, when I sat on their 32 and 38 hp tractor (B series), to be honest, they just felt like big lawn tractors, plus there weren't very comfortable for me. I tried the 4600 and liked it, but couldn't find one with hst (I have other people who use it, so want something easy to drive), so I looked at the Massey-Ferguson. I was very surprised when I sat on a 1635 and it felt like a "real tractor". It is much heavier than the equivalent Kubota, as most of you know, so this will help when pulling certain implements. The adjustable steering wheel and much more adjustable seat also made it much more comfortable. I was in love.
Unfortunately, the one I wanted turned out to be sold but the salesperson said he might get me a 2013 with 50 hours on it for $21,500 with loader. That night I was checking prices when I found a 2011 1635 with a cab, loader, and only 90 hours for $22,500. Interestingly enough, it was listed for sale in the same town I'm living in! I rushed down the next morning to the dealer, only to find it was not there...but fortunately not sold, just transferred to another dealer. Drat. Thus, I sucked it up, rescheduled my work for the rest of the day, drove 100 miles to look at it, and bought it on the spot. We shall see how that works out. But having that cab is well worth having a tractor a couple years older, given I'm still working full time and so have to care for my acreage when I have time, not when the weather is nice. Plus I'm at the age where I appreciate (need?) a few luxuries!
I'll let you know how it works out...
Yours,
Mike
