Hi Rob and welcome. I used to drive for Airborne and my neighbor is a pilot for them. He commutes up there from here. Any chance that you work for Airborne or DHL? I'm just curious what the rumors are about the place and if they are going to make it? I still have a few friends that are still driving, but most have been let go and are out trying to find other jobs or moved away to where they can get a job. From what my neighbor has told me, they were planning on shutting down this month, but now that's been put off. The station managers were given bonuses if they didn't quit until this month, but once they get those bonuses, it's gonna be tough to keep them on. With most of them leaving and only so many who know how to handle a plane coming in and getting it out again, they are worried that they won't have anybody left before the close down for good. Of course, if you don't work for Airborne, I'm sure you know plenty of people in the area who do. Hope they make it through this OK.
I quite in 02 when they started giving away the overnight service in their attempt to compete with UPS. That was just the dumbest thing I ever saw. Profits disappeared and then so did service. Those in charge went out of their way to ruin a good thing and it scared me so bad that I quite a very good paying union job before it disappeared and I'd be in a panic to pay my mortgage.
