Greetings! New L185 owners here

We just bought a cute little L185 to mow our 5 acres of flat pasture with;it came with a Kubota 560? finish mower. We're not experienced tractor owners, so I may be coming here alot asking 'stupid' questions of you.

We live in MD, have 3 horses and a bitty farmette.

At some point, we'd love to find either a FEL or a blade for this, but not at the new prices I've seen.

Are there any good third party "how to use/take care of your tractor' publications that might be useful for us?

You can search and find and I & T Service manual for this tractor. It should help on operation qurestions too.

Here is what I have found and I realize it serves no real need, but the L185 appears to be a 1977 model.

Frontend loader maybe your local Kubota dealer could help...never know for he migh have one out back or knows of someone that does.

Rear blade...farm auctions etc. also tractor repair shop again store out back.

Try looking at Mcgrew Farm Equipment, Seven Valleys, PA (south of York, PA) web site. They advertise on ebay lots (eBay Seller: mcgrewequipment: Agriculture Forestry, Construction items on eBay.com, plus have auctions several times a year. They might not be too far from you, depending on your MD location.

Type in :tractorsmart.com, they will be able to get you a copy of the original manuals, that Kubota issued when the tractor was new! They are a great group of guys that can provide new parts, and also help you "trouble shoot" any future problems, if the tractor has any? They are a Kubota business only. I have an L175 that powers a sprayer for my orchard; they are good tractors.

I was thinking more of a guide like I saw someone on the Net write for N series tractors "50 things you should or should not do" or some such. Had some great general advice there, not just for N series. Oftentimes manuals do not much good, commonsense and detailwise, similar to computer manuals; gotta get a third party book on the computer thing to get knowledge.

We're going to mow on Sunday, so we'll see what dumb questions pop up from that outing.

Just grease it, fuel it, get on it and mow.... Everything else you need to know is on this forum. If it isn't it doesn't need to be known....

This is advice only; but I am sure you are aware of this? If possible, storage can be a problem year around if the tractor is exposed to the elements of weather! The hot sun will rot and harden the rubber tires, condensation will deposit itself in the fuel tank and the drivetrain diluting the fluids, and the paint will suffer also. Winter speaks for itself, causing the fuel to jell at low temperatures, along with hard starting. A tarp will help, but covered parking will add years to it's life and reduce the cost of ownership. (It's that TLC!?) Good luck to you, the mowing and other tasks will become fun instead of a chore!
