the autumn olive is not evergreen, it will grow 12 ft tall with no problem, it does get wide, if you let it..i've got @70ft of it, and it does well for what i want; i got them from the state forestry. the russian olive, i am told, is about the same, but is evergreen. a little trimming ever couple years seems to keep these under control; last year i cut them back to @3-4 ft tall, so they would thicken, seems to be working.. a good fast growing tree is the river birch, or maybe just birch, i've always heard it called a river birch. good luck
