Never got my wish to own a ranch in Oregon, but at least I live in a ranch style house with an occasional garden. My image of ranching was early to rise, good meal and work with nature.

No doubt my perceptions were tempered by teevee, but I easily saw myself feasting on steak and egg breakfasts with coffee and fresh baked rolls and enjoying the rising Sun before heading out the door.

So, is red meat from cattle raised on the ranch and fresh eggs from my own hens the power food for a hard day? And I focus on the ranch for food because store bought foods are too often contaminated with chemicals that sap the life out of us.

So far All I've raised "On the ranch" is chicken and duck eggs, and when free ranging they are AWESOME, when cooped up they are still MUCH better than store eggs with more color and flavor.

I had fresh eggs scrambled with some assorted leftovers for breakfast this morning.

I plan to rise a cow and other "meat" also.

Be well,

David

My neighbor, a retired deputy sheriff, has a few hens and just last week got himself some ducks. I never gave a thought to duck eggs, but he says they are much better and circumvent the growing problem of poultry allergies.

I have a neighbor/customer that has goats on their land in Tillamook, OR and if it weren't for the fact that they eat everything they would make a good source of milk. Anyway, it doesn't seem a problem to have a few healthy food sources wandering the ranch.

How does sausage, eggs, biscuits with gravy sound for breakfast? Or a big cast iron dutch oven with soup beans- pinto and navy beans- with a chunk of shoulder or ham hock, topped off with baked corned bread and onions for Supper? :licking:

That's been my personal favorite all my life, but I almost never have it anymore because I need to lose some weight.:(

I've never eaten a duck egg, but I've got a next door neighbor who has a son who lives a mile or so from us and has several Rhode Island Red hens, and they keep me supplied with plenty of eggs.

My issues are always with family members insisting they see product like it is in the store. Neatly wrapped and packaged.

Well, the eggs are about as "store" packaged as you can get. All other eat'ins require some butchery.

But as close to natural is where it is at for me.

I have the same issues. We often have eggs and slaughter two hogs at a usda slaughter house that wraps the meat and I can't give extras away. I only have one friend that will take some extra venison otherwise I couldn't give that away either. Oh well, more for my family and me.

The "butchery" angle is out of my league. I might be able to manage to squeeze the hen a bit, though.:)
