can a box blade with scarafiers be used to grub small areas containing vines a small (1") saplings. Had a dozer and took out large trees but some small stuff remains.

It seems it would depend on how thick the vines are ..If I were you I would start out with the scarifiers set to go in the soil at the minimum depth to start with and then increase the depth of penetration according to the resistance and be careful and go slow to get the feel of it.....if you go too fast and the box blade gets hung up..you could be pulled over backwards depending on the grade...

Maybe. I tried using box blade scarifiers to clean up a recently cleared area and it would clog up with a big ball of vines in about 10 seconds. I could sometimes raise the box blade and back up and get the mass of vines to drop out, most of the time I had to get off the tractor and manually clear the vines from the box blade. After I was done I still had a bunch of piles of vines/roots to deal with.

Reversing a rototiller works great for pulling up small stuff. I reversed my tiller by flipping the transfer case over and rotating 180 degrees. Normally when running forward, it would jump and bounce on rocks & brush stumps. In reverse (or counter rotating), it lifts rocks and roots up from underneath and finely mulches the soil. Watch out for rocks being thrown up at the back of your head.
I broke tines on the box scrapper doing the same thing. Hit a big one and you are over the steering wheel hugging the engine.

Rotary cutter too. You can pretty well run the blades into the ground to get a light chop and till of surface junk. If it's smaller than your wrist, it'll be mowable.
