I need to spread grubex or like product over 4 acres. According to the package I would need 40 - 15 lb bags or 600lbs. Is there anyplace I can buy grub killer granuals in bulk. The hopper on my spreader will hold 500 lbs so adding 15 lbs bags at a time does not appeal to me. Also each 15 lb bag is $20. If I can buy in bulk hopefully the cost would go down. Thank you ahead of time for any help.

Thank you Don. I wonder what the price is on 30lb bag of Merit Grub killer? I tried to log in to that site and get a price but it kept running me in a circle. That stuff looks exactly like what I want.

On a slightly different subject but related to grub treatment. My lawn is riddled with grubs that kill the grass, but worse yet is my dog that digs up all the moles in my 4 acre lawn.

So I too want to curb the grubs and moles. However does the grub treatment kill beneficial worms like red leaf worms, night crawlers, firefly larva, etc, or does it target specific species?

I have read on the Scotts Grubex bag that it targets only certain types of grubs. I too have the mole/dog problem that I am treating the grubs for. Unfortunately the dog is not mine but a neighbors that will not keep it a home. After the fourth time finding the holes in my yard and asking them to keep the dog at home I stepped in one and twisted my ankle. Next hole animal control will be called.

Try "milky spore". It is a disease of the grubs. High initial cost but it keeps working for up to 20 years. It affects only grubs when they ingest it. I used it after I bought a new house and could lift the yard like a rug. It does not kill all, just controls them.

Thanks guy's. I'll check out the Scott's and Milky spore.

Any advice on how to train the dog to fill in and level her holes when's she's done?

I would be happy if I could get her to dig on command at a particular location. Much easier putting the dirt back in the hole than getting it out in the first palce. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Milky Spore is a great product but it will not survive a northern winter. Merit in a 50 lb bag covers about 15.000 sq. ft. so you will need about 3 bags per acre. Cost from Lesco was about $65 last year.
In some areas Merit is a restricted use product and you need a pesticide license to purchase it.
