People, thanks in advance. Put in a new fuel pump, still wont start. How hard is it to take apart the carb.? What else do you think it could be? Im not very mechanical. What does the solenoid do? Plugged jets? Thanks.

what do you mean by not starting? Does it crank over? was it running before the new fuel pump? Give us as much info about the unit and what took place. Thanks

Sorry, it does crank over. I think the solenoid is bad. Reason being is I learned on youtube how to check it and the deal didn't go in when I turned the key, and I did ground it I believe. I don't know, Im about as mechanical as my 8 year old son, not helpless, but I didn't study small engines that's for sure. thanks.

If it cranks over , then the solenoid is working. So now you could have a spark issue or its not getting fuel. Again, why did you replace the fuel pump? was it running before and when and why did it quit? need more info to help solve your problem.

ok.sorry. I overfilled the oil last fall and it quit running. Just a complete idiot mistake. I read that if you do that then the fuel pump can quit working. Once the new pump was on I disconnected the fuel line from just in front of the carb,and not to shortly after cranking it over, fuel was coming out of said line. I thought the solenoid was bad because it didn't pop back in when I tested it. When I put gas directly into the carb it fires right up until that gas burns up. I thought the solenoids job was to retract and let fuel in. I don't know. I tried putting wire into both leads of the seat switch to see if that was the problem, then my friend said if the seat switch was shot then it wouldn't even turn over. All new oil. Correct level. One guy said to try to disconnect the oil level switch once and try it. Nothing. when turning it over, as soon I squirt fuel into carb it starts right up. I cant thank you enough!!!!

OK, now I understand. The solenoid on the caburator is what your talking about. Your right, if its not working it wont start. when you turn the key one position (on) not start, you should be able to hear or feel the solenoid click. if it does, then it may be good if you cant feel or hear it, either its not getting power or its stuck closed. They do go bad, but I have not seen that too often. Check that first and lets go from there.

Thanks so much. Took solenoid to JD. They tested it also. They said it was junk. Went to Napa. 24 dollars cheaper. Itll be in in the morning so well see. Im such an idiot I didn't know there were other solenoids. He said if the jets on carb were plugged he would advise against me trying to take apart carb. Do you think hes right? Said that I probably would mess it up. With all the linkage I tend to think hes right. Thanks again, guys like you are saints.

ok so now it started but ut us smoking like a B. Is that because it was overfilled? do I have to do something to fix this? I drained the oil and its all new. White smoke. thanks!!

I agree with this comment. I did a similar thing and got lots of white smoke. Emptied the oil and refilled to correct level. Still got some white smoke for a few minutes then it was all good. I think you should be OK.

Don't beat yourself up over not knowing this stuff. It doesn't come with you at birth. Like eveything else, you just need to learn and the best learning is experience in actually doing.
