I have a o4 gt 245 with 450 hr.s.I find that I have to crank it over a lot to start it and sometimes it floods(i think)and I have to leave it for a few minutes.
I use premium fuel but I think one tankful might have been sitting in my jerrry can for 2-3 months over the winter.I get a small puff of black smoke on starting.I now use fuel stabalizer. Can I use seafoam to clean the carb out.I sprayed some carb cleaner
in the intake while the engine was running ,this did not help.Once the engine is running it runs
fine and has tons of power. The starting issue is usually after the engine is warm .Thanks for our help

Before you get to far into it, check your throttle cable settings.
I've found on the 2XX series that they get out of adjustment and result in the conditions you describe.

There is a hole in the throttle linkage that needs to align with a hole in the bracket.
at the fast idle position.

It has to maintain alignment from idle to fast. and then from Choke to Fast.
If it doesn't align after moving from each position to fast you will have to adjust it.

put a 15/64" drill bit in the slot to align and lossen the throttle cable to set.
retest and adjust as necessary.

Since you're a new member to this forum, I'll assume that you might have purchased this tractor used, and that not all of the hours on it are yours. If I'm right about this, then I'm in the same boat. I just purchased a 2003 GT245 with 500 hours on it.

With regard to starting it, let me make sure that you're using the choke lever correctly. When the tractor is cold, I have to push the choke lever all the way forward to get the engine to start. And even when the tractor is warm, I still need to push the choke lever forward approximately half way to get the engine to start.

This is different from my previous (Ariens) tractor with a Kohler 15 hp single-cylinder engine. On that tractor, once the engine was warm, I didn't have to touch the choke lever at all. The GT245's Kawasaki engine is different, and always seems to need at least some choke to start.

I've read others say the same thing, so I know this isn't an idiosyncracy of my machine.

Hope this helps,

Steve
