First I'd like to say thank you to all the members here. This is my first post but your insight was invaluable when I was researching which tractor to buy. I chose the Cub Cadet GT2544 and I'm happy with it except for two things. In reverse, the tractor moves so slow that I can't back it over a 1X4 door stop to get the thing into or out of my garden shed. I have to manually push it. Secondly, in forward at slow speed, if I take my foot off the forward pedal, it keeps rolling. It doesn't slow to a stop. At faster speeds if I take my foot off the forward pedal, the rear tires will skid on dry grass. I took the tractor to the dealer where I bought it and they said it was out of adjustment. They had it for three days. I got it home, started to drive it and there was no change at all. I don't want to take it back to the dealer where I bought it but will take it elsewhere if these problems are fixable. Is this normal for the Cubs or does my new tractor need to be seen by someone that knows how to fix it? Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Rob

When you push the reverse pedal down does it pull back on the forward pedal? One test would be to pull back on the forward pedal (instead of pushing down on the reverse), if it goes back fast doing this then you need to adjust the pedels where they connect to each other. The 2 bolts holding them together may be loose causing the slow in reverse problem.

I adjusted mine by loosing both bolts and pushing down on the forward pedal until it can't go no futher, while holding it down push up on the reverse pedal until it hits the metal foot rest. Then tighten them back up. This is a good starting point, it all depends on how fast you want to go in either direction.

I'm not sure if this will help your sunden stops when letting off the pedal. It may just need some more breaking time to help out that problem.

Rob, my 2544 rolls easily as well. Always did. If I hop off of it on a fairly sharp incline, it will roll. Have to set the brake. My reverse starts out slow, but gradually picks up speed. Like Steve says, check the full range of motion on the F and R pedals.

Thank you Gentlemen! I've never looked at the forward pedal to see if it moves while depressing the reverse pedal. I'll check on that. I'll also check those bolts and make adjustments, but things will have to wait until I return from my business trip. I just wanted to reply to both of you before heading to the airport. Thanks and I'll be checking the boards when I return for any new ideas or comments.
