I am Mike Demeter and I have a problem with my tractor. It runs good for 1/2 an hour and then it quits. I start it up, turn the run lever not quit full and I can get it home. After it cool down it starts like a new one. And then it does it again. I have replace the spark plug, change out the filter, clean the carburetor. What happening?

welcome to TBN Mike!

Check the air hole (vent) on your gas tank cap. They get plugged with debris and dirt over time because they allow air in as gas is being consumed. The cap has a little pin hole in the top and usually a removable diaphragm.

I have seen this on several machines, most recently it was a MTD/Sabre model with a B&S engine and the gas tank and fill port is on the back of the machine being exposed to dust and debris.

This would be better in the JD Lawn and Garden area so more like owners would see it. Welcome to TractorByNet. Does it have spark when it quits? You should see a nice blue spark off the plug to wire when cranking. If no spark, then you may have a bad coil pack. Check the basics first. Check electrical connections. Faulty interrupter switches will kill the engine ( seat, pto, blade engage), then move on to see if you have fuel flow.

I moved your thread to the John Deere Lawn & Garden forum. :)

I would bet that the problem is the gas cap and would be the easiest to check. Also the easiest to fix.

I forget the exact details, but we experienced a similar problem with our 1998 GT275 when it was about 2-3 years old. The mower would begin to intermittently hiccup (sounded like a misfire) then would eventually shut off after 20-30 minutes of use. Still under warranty, we brought it back to the dealer and there was some problem with the connection on the safety switch under the seat.

I would check the wiring under the seat is clean/not corroded, then mess with it from there. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone else on this site will know how to troubleshoot your problem. Good luck and keep us posted.

It's over heating becuase you have a mouse nest in your air housing that cools the engine. Remove the housing and clean out the nest.
