Well, I've been working on my GT14 that I purchased last summer. I got it cheap, and it needed some work. But I thought I could handle it. I'm a bigtime DIYer, mechanical engineer, comfortable running a mill, lathe, welders, etc. And this tractor has kicked my butt. I just got done rebuilding the pto clutch on it, and found that it was still screwed up. I think the rotor is bent. At some point in the past, a previous owner had let the pto loosen up and it evidently had fallen off the tractor. I found the frame mount for the pto had a couple cracks in it, the driveshaft had welded ujoint caps to keep them in, and just about every part in the pto clutch was bunged up. Of course, I couldn't see any of this or even test the pto, since when I bought it, the pto relay was missing, and I couldn't turn it on. It was probably intentional. If I had turned it on, it would have probably vibrated like crazy.
Moral of the story - make sure it all works unless you get it really really cheap.
