GT1554 keeps throwing deck belt...can you help?

I removed and took apart the spindle as you suggested and found there was no upper bearing so it appears that's the source of my problem....have ordered a replacement and hope that will take care of it. thanks again for your knowledge and willingness to help in this way....very much appreciated.....

Thank you for providing the last chapter. Too often someone comes here and once their problem is solved they never bother to tell the forum about it. We all learn from each other here.
It seems incredible that someone put it together without the upper bearing.

Just be very careful about the spacers. The two between the bearings hold the bearing apart and in the right place. The thin spacer above the upper bearing is to keep the pulley hub from rubbing.

The existing bearing was a bit noisy so decided to get the whole assembly rather than have problems with it later. thanks again for all....
