GT235 w/ 54" deck

Not 235, but 325 w/ 17hp single-cylinder 48" - no powerflow. The hp is enough, but mowing heavy growth often will cause you to discover the weaker links, ie; the bolt holding the pto clutch, pulley on the crankshaft. My father notes it just is'nt as heavy duty as his Cub 124, he does enjoy getting done faster though.

Yep, already have 235 w/ 48" deck. Looking to go to a 235 w/ 54" deck.
Anyone have actual experience?

I got a 54 on a x540.

What do you want to know? Mowing is alright. Extra width is handy for around obstacles, but really doesent make much difference in actual mowing as i typically follow in the previous rows footprint. A 48 would provide the necessary overlap.

Has lots of suction. Mows quite even. Blades are heavy and can take abuse.

I have 26 hp vs your 18. I havent bogged down mine in ~10 - 12 " grass. 18hp might bog in heavy grass. dont know for sure.

One thing i dont like is the belt guard on top. Holds too much grass. bad design. Thinking about removing it.

one last thing, due to the width, loading on a truck is not an option. I have to trailer mine.

What I want to know is if anyone with actual experience with a GT235 and a 54" deck has any difficulty mowing with an 18HP engine.

Thought I made that pretty clear in my first post.

Sorry i dont have your exact configuration.

Dont think the 54 was a common config for the 235. Your 8 less HP than me . Thats a fair amount. Youll likely be down on power if you go into heavy stuff. I can feel it when im in anything more than 6" of grass. Take it for what its worth.

Good luck on your hunt for someone with your EXACT config.......

Scoob,

I didn't mean to come across harsh. And yes your correct, it might be tough to find someone with a GT235 & 54" deck, but there's a lot of Deere owners here.

I have to stick to that exact configuration because that's the tractor I'm looking at.

My current GT 235 with 48" deck will cut 12" grass with no problem. I never let my grass go more than 8", usually no more than 6", so a 54" deck would help me get cut faster.

Thanks for helping.

no worries. i understand why your looking for that specific config, just dont think youll find to many of them out there. I responded because the machines are similar size and decks are the same.

but as i said the 54 really doesnt make a huge difference in cutting time. i went from a 44 to the 54. 18hp to 26. the only advantage is edging.

My speed gains came from hydro drive so i can go f-r quicker and more power so i can cut faster. deck width doesnt come into play in regular mowing as i like to have one set of wheels in the previous path to cut down on crushing more grass than necessary. Going with one wheel parallel to the previous path would result in using the whole 54, but then id have a crush area 2x as big.

good luck in your hunt, but i dont think what little gain you may get will be worth the $$$, unless you have a lot of trees etc. to trim around

I didn't want to bore everyone with details, but the GT-235 with 54" deck I speak of also has a powerflow and a snowblower. That's why I'm trying to buy it. I really need the powweflow. The larger deck & blower are also welcomed features.

My concern is the 54" deck and powerflow might be too much for 18HP.

Have you tried Weekend Freedom Machines there deere specific. A fair bit of info there.

I agree, powerflow would add some load to the mower. Im sure a post over there (or a search) will get you the correct answer
