Hi.I have a GT235 with both a 42C deck and a 48C deck.(I switch them depending on what I'm cutting)(Or actually "whoos cutting)plenty of power there.I also have a Cub Cadet 1863 with 18 hp kohler and a 54" deck. I would have no qualms putting a 54" deck under the GT235. Yeh the power flow will eat a bit of power,so when the grass is real deep ya remove the powerflo for a bit.
