There is more damage done by "running it dry". Running an engine until it stumbles and dies leaves fuel in the bowl and pump. The fuel via the bowl vent in the carb deteriorates and will gum the solenoid or main depending on which carb you have. The absolute best thing you can do is treat the fuel and run the equipment once a month for 5 minutes to cycle some fresh fuel through the pump and carb. If you don't go through the effort of actually drying the lines, gently drying the pump and removing the bowl to drain complete- you have done more harm than good.
