Looking at 2 JDs--a 314 with 1035 hrs and a gt275 with unknown hours. Both are around $1300. Don't know what size deck each has. I need to mow 2 acres, push snow, and do general property maintenance. Thoughts on either machine and if the asking price is in the ballpark? Thanks in advance!

Go with the 314. It's strong as an ox. I've got 2 and 1's got the 54" blade. I've graded a lotta dirt with it.

Great--thanks for the feedback. Looked at both over the weekend. The GT275 only had a 38" deck, so that one is out anyway. The 314 was a beast. Has the 46" deck on it. I have about 1.5 acres of fairly flat ground to mow. Takes about 2 hours each week. Any reason to think the 14hp Kohler might be undersized for the job? Seems to produce enough torque, but I wouldnt want to push the engine too hard. That said, all the reviews I've read say those cast-iron Kohlers are built to last.

It'll mow just fine, as long as you have sharp blades. The only problem I have with my 314 is the carburetor. For some reason it's getting trash in the gas so I've gotta clean my tank out.
