I appreciate the info here at Tractorbynet.
Time to contribute.

The Landpride box blade has served me well over the years. It was time to give it some rehab and paint. I decided it was a good time to add a set of detachable guage wheels. Something I could easily adjust, and take off and stow away.

2 fixed Casters w/ 8" x 2" cast wheels (no rubber)
8' Scrap metal (by the pound)
4 Plastic end caps
4 Clips
2 Zerk fittings (for greasing pipe in pipe swivel)
Primer/Paint (I need to find some JD green for powdercoat)

I enjoyed the project and am happy with the results.

I have used the setup enough to appreciate the function, but believe most of the work can be done by using the box blade controls rather than the training wheels, oops I mean guage wheels. Seriously they do work fine.

PS, I dusted a thin coat of loose dirt in the rear view photo to show how nice and flat the results were. Now I just have to dig a few pockets and then shoot some pool.

Happy trails,
Dave

Nice work. How big is the BB? How big HP wise is your tractor? I really like the way the scarifiers adjust on the box blade does that function work well?

The BB is 5' wide and heavier than many I've seen.
JD 790 rated at 30HP.
This is a very functional attachment. I have changed the control arm angle making it easier for me to work while driving. This arm allows the teeth to be set all the way up or down, in between would be float. There is a stiff spring to counter the weight involved. Other settings can be done with tools...

Happy trails,
Dave

Thats a nice set up. I wonder what it would take to mount guage wheels on my boxblade. I wish I had boxblade teeth that long. Oh well, I'll be building my arena invention and plan to get longer teeth around next spring. Then I can do some playin on my Yanmar.:D

Looks great Dave,
I especially like your use of steel wheels, they'll never go flat. The last pick in your first post really shows off how nice the results are that you can achieve. I have a question - how is the swivel point connected / attached at the bottom below the grease fitting?

JD,
The hardest part of this project was rounding up the scrap (tube in tube...)

Larry,
Good question. I forget that I used a large bolt, nut, and washers for that part. The bolt slips up into the round pipe section. The welded nut and smaller washers are hidden inside of the square pipe section where it meets the round. You can see larger washer edges and welded bolt head in the close-ups.

So the bolt acts as an axle which rotates inside the round pipe section.

I think a second look at the close-ups well help explain this.

Happy trails,
Dave
