I have 2 4 x 20 cylinders just sitting around and I am wondering if this might not be a good use for them. Easiest splitter to load. Thoughts on this and construction ideas??? I also have the frame already with the arms off an 'in the floor' old garage hoist. Obviously this is a 3-point installation.

Are you talking about two vertical posts with two cylinders pushing the blade/wedge down? Why not just do a typical I-beam style splitter in a vertical position?

I am not really sure what you have in mind but a guillotine is better used to shear than to split here is video of a real sweet wood processor that does just that
