Gun safety, make it paramount.......

That was only a few miles from me. The boy was in the local VFD and his "guy's" were the responders to this scene. I did not know him but a good friend in the dept said he was a good guy, good enough to let him hunt coyote's among his cattle. The rifle was on the tailgate of the truck and he just walked........
No drugs or alcohol were involved, just a very sad accident.

Well something is not adding up. The link said two guys trying to clear a stoppage in a firearm and he was in front of the muzzle, and you are saying the firearm just fired itself as he walked by... Or did I miss something?

I did not want to put my friend (who was there responding) in a situation where he was asked to describe something that he wasn't allowed to do by law. I was helping him haul some hay and just asked him about it. It's a small VFD and this young guy had a lot of promise. Firefighter & paramedic.
Can't really answer you James.

The news people didn't dont do a good job on trying to tell what really happen, seen several stories on this gun accident and I still dont know what kind or what ammo, be nice if they'd do an reenactment so others like me can learn, maybe it was inexperience, maybe complacency, both, maybe just a sad accident. Might be time again to go over gun safety with my kids when they show up for target practise.

I have a cousin who was the top dog at his community VFD in S.Dak. Talking with him a few weeks back, he related why he had to quit. He kept being called to be the first to see his friends dead.

Sad reality when you know most everyone around.

I suppose it could have been a hang fire, that was mishandled, but I have only seen one, and it was maybe three or four seconds at the most, and it was a reload to boot.
