In this case, gun safe talk.

I'm looking for a small handgun safe with quick easy access, not for high anti theft security, but more for safety in the home.

Been looking at the Gun vaults that are so popular in the gun shops, but also stack on brand at cabelas, that was similar in style but built a little heavier. The Gunvault brand looked like you could easily pop it open with a small pinch bar.

Some have the bio metric thing where it reads your finger print, as first I didn't like it but maybe it's ok. I would always have the back up key on me at all times.

Links to 2 of the ones mentioned.

GV2000C-DLX | GunVault | GunVault

GV2000C-STD | GunVault | GunVault

Stack-On | Products | Quick Access Safe with Biometric Lock ? NEW!

Saw this one at Cabelas too, this one would be perfect for under a car seat cabled to the seat frame. looked better made than the gunvault model.
Stack-On | Products | Portable Case with Electronic Lock - NEW!

Any comments welcome.

I have the mini Vault and it works fine for keeping prying kid hands off the gun. It is small enough to fit under the bed. My power supply did not seem to work. I realized this after the batteries went dead and I had to use the key to open it. It takes a lot of batteries but they last over a year. I'm happy with it.

One thing I've been concerned about the biometric safes is how reliable are they. See if you can find out their error rate. Read reviews from people who have them. You can find reviews on Amazon.

How many guns do you intend to store? I personally use a fatboy that stores a lot of guns plus important papers.

That's my main concern, maybe I'm over-thinking how well they are built. The gunvault probably has better technology, the Stackon is heavier though.

Just 1 or 2 at a time between carrying. I have a larger one already.

I have a Gunvault. Bought it for kid safety. Yet be able to be opened quickly in the dark. I disabled the beeps. Don't want to let the intruder know someones up and going for a weapon. Same with the interior light. I know it's there and ready for my hand. It's really not meant to be secure from thieves. I like the delay built-in after 3 rejected opening attempts. It'll prevent someone (like a kid) from running through all the combinations.

I just changed the batteries after 6 years just to be on the safe side. Takes 8 AA batteries. I used Energizer batteries . They say they're good til 2017... I recommend it.

I have a Gun Vault, and I have had a lot of problems with it. Mine is older, maybe 10 years old, and maybe not as well built as the newer ones, I don't know. The problem with mine is I can not keep the batteries hooked up. I added all new wiring and that didn't help. I've since figured out the batteries aren't staying in the tray well. The battery tray is kind of cheap in my opinion. I've even ran electric tape around the tray to help hold the batteries in. I finally figure out if is slipped foil in against one of the batteries, it helped. It just seems like too much work to keep the batteries fresh and working and I now just use the key.

Neatest one I ever saw for a couple of handguns was what a friend of mine did years ago. He cut out a couple of walls behind photos/wall art and used that space for a "vault". He had one in the living room and one in the Master bed room. He did another with a Electric panel door in his hallway. A bit more creative than store bought.

When it comes to security, generally speaking, if it doesn't use batteries, it's going to be better. You'd be amazed what you can learn to do with a paper clip.

For storing handguns, look at the V-line.

I own both the Gun Vault and V-line, and although the V-line is more money, I prefer that brand over the Gun Vault.

Thanks, I've never heard of V-line, just took a look at their site. they don't seem to have one in the dimensions similar to the Gun Vault. Which would be perfect for the spot I want to put it, I'd like the one with the little shelf. But I am not impressed at all with cheap locking mechanism of the gun vault.

I thought the same thing after examining it, a paper clip manipulated around the lock would trip it open. Basically about equivalent to a locked desk drawer, actually my old wood desk would be harder to get in.

My local gun shop has the the Gun vault bio metric version for $275. which is a good price. but they said they are getting some different ones in the next couple of weeks so I'll wait to see.

Gun Talk? I thought you meant "Gun Talk". The talk radio program with host Tom Gresham. The program is on nationally on Sunday 1-4PM Central time. This is one of my favorite talk radio progams.
