I looked at it tonight for the first time. It seems as though it is primarily a site for internet dealers selling new items. I didn't see a lot of private sales. Have you ever used it? If you are buying a commonly available new gun, wouldn't it be just as easy to buy from a local dealer and avoid all the shipping fees and extra wait time? I can see using it for a rare, old or hard to find item being shipped to your local FFL.

Do private sellers avoid it due to the rules about shipping only to FFL??

Hiya,

I use it for a pricing guide mainly. There aren't really any bargains out there, like you said, it's mostly dealers trying to get the max for stuff.

I do find a lot of firearms that are out of state but I always xfer them through a local FFL holder.

You have to do the local in-state FFL xfer for an out of state firearm sale unless you hold your own FFL and transfer it to your book, then onto yourself. (And thanks to the first Clinton in office, there are a lot fewer FFL holders now, me being one of them)

I have made several purchases from Gunbroker and quite good deals. Your right though, many, many dealers, very few citizen sales. That being said, if you keep a close eye on what ever your looking for, you can find some good bargins, even with the shipping, and FFL transfer fee. If you have a friend or local gun shop with FFL as I do, the transfer is only 5 bucks.

Tom, I too gave up my FFL to Klinton, and now we may have to deal with yet a worse Klinton. BEAR

I'm not much into guns, but somehow have about two dozen of them. I don't car for shooting or target practice, but seem to buy them for specific purposes. I sorta know what I want, so I keep my open for it at a good price and wait for it. Last year I saw a brand new Remington 700 bolt action rifle in 30-06 for $200 on craigslist. I talked to the guy, who told me he won it in a skeet shoot and didn't want or need a rifle. It was just as he said with the Bass Pro Shop stickers still on the box. For the very best deals on just about everything that I find, it's usualy on craigslist.

pricing is what it is good for...have not found any steals on the site...I found better deals at the two big Cab/Bass Pro when you know what your looking for in thier used section. I quit buying new guns years and years ago, think my last new one was purchased at a rod and gun club in germany....

I called a dealer with a "Buy It Now" listing and offered a couple hundred dollars less than his price. He accepted it. He was however, an instate dealer and I had to pick the gun up.

As TomD999, I too use it primarily for price checking. I haven't ever purchased from the site, but I did place a bid once. I didn't win the auction. This was fortunate for me however, because I found the same item in the local newspaper for a little cheaper and I didn't have to go through any FFL hassle because the guy was a private citizen.:D

Eddie,
Craigslist doesn't allow guns to be on their site anymore. I don't know when this started...I have seen guns on their before:confused: . I guess liberal Kalifornia finally got to ole Craig (who I think is HQ'd in San Francisco). Anyhow, I too used to surf Craigslist for my local area trying to find good ole boys parting with their guns for cheap. That's when I noticed his disclaimer that no firearms were allowed and for everyone to report the post if someone did put one on his site. :(

I check the thrift-nickel and newspaper on the weekends for deals mostly.

That sucks. I bought it last summer, but haven't been paying attention for anymore since then. Don't really need any more, so I guess I just haven't noticed that.

I've used them and always had good luck there.

I bought my .22 pistol there and one of my smellies. Normally I use it for price checking and also just to look at guns.

I buy there gun parts too - like used bolt for SMLE No.1 Mk III - it is easier than to search for it at a gun show.
