Nice. What kind of snake is it?

We were hiking at Sky Medows state park in MD last week and came across a couple black rat snakes on the trail. One was about 4', the other a good 5.5'

Yeah, I would like to know what it is too. We don't have anything like that around here. I saw a little snake, about 18" long in the yard a couple days ago when I was mowing. I came around the corner of the house, and there he was...I couldn't stop in time, and I ran over the top of him. Remarkably, he wasn't injured; I went and got my "grabber" that I use to retrieve items from the top garage shelf, picked him up and took him down to the creek. I'm pretty sure he was a little bull snake or some other non-venomous variety. First snake I have seen in my yard (other than the one the hawk dropped on the electric line) in many years.

P.S. From the pics I saw on the internet, looks like he was a little gopher snake.

He's crying. Look at those black tears running down his face. Mojave dessert eh? Reckon y'all have a good supply of sliders. We got em here too, mostly copperheads, and if around water, ye old water moccasin, aka, cottonmouth (same snake). Some rattlers too, but not as many as there.
