If anyone wants to help with the disaster in Haiti you can do so by texting
to 90999 with a message of "Haiti".

This will add $10.00 to your next month's phone bill and it goes immediately to the Red Cross. You will get a couple of text's back confirming. Yesterday almost 5 million was raised by this method.

I am in! Anyone else game? Let's see how much TBN can donate $10.00 at a time!

The $10 text message method is good. For those who would like to donate more I'd suggest the American Red Cross and many others. Just today, it was announced that Bill Clinton and George W. Bush will co-chair a fund for Haiti relief. They have a "no-bull" website and an easy way to donate via credit card. Here is the link:

The Wife and I also have decided what to do with all those penny and small change jars us and the kids have. Could not go to a better cause going over there helping the people in need of it than anything here.

As much as I would like to... Haiti is one of the most corupt counties on the planet. Very leary of where the money will end up?

Mark, as with the Philipines and the Mount Pinatubo eruption, most of the people hurt are peasants and people who have a meager survival in the best of times. I have to believe in the American Red Cross and even our US government will use the dollars donated for aid instead of graft and ill-gotten gain. There are many good charities that will give every penny possible to the relief of people who must have no other hope of survival. Haiti's corruption has never been the poor people, even in the days of Papa Doc and Baby Doc Duvalier. These poor people have always had my heart since I visited there in 1972 while in the US Navy. They are survivors and I want them to survive this terrible tragedy. I can only hope that what emerges out of this tragedy will be better than the Haiti that was before it. I would encourage anyone to give to the charity in which they have the most confidence. Haiti cannot survive without our help. Let's give them a chance.:)

Yes, the red cross is a fine outfit. In Canada, the Gov't is matching donations up to 50 million. They are about 30 mil so far I think. Poor people.

Not to get political... wondering what is happening with the 57+ billion $$$ (($56,952,606,000 as at March 31, 2008)) surplus our Government has from
unemployment contributions paid by our citizens over the years...

570 million $$$ would equal 1% of the surplus... that would be a start to help the citizens of Haiti recover and I think most Canadians would be honoured and have no problems giving this much - especially if it was from that fund!!!

We are contributing what we can to the Red Cross... very sad situation for the Haitian people.

There's bad news and good news this morning. An aftershock of around 6.1 has struck and there may be more coming.

The good news is that Secretary Gates said we are sending special port clearing ships down to try and get the port open. Also, the use of the palace grounds for staging aid by helicopter is a good thing. That's a central location in Port-Au-Prince and should speed immediate aid from a secured spot.
