Half of the Tappet Brothers has passed, Click and clack

Ironically, I heard about Tommy's death on my car radio on my way home from work. I always enjoyed Car Talk, and listened most Sundays, even to the re-runs. The show was great, Tommy and Ray were hysterical and knowledgeable about everything, including cars. Listening to Tommy and Ray for an hour always made me feel good, plus I learned tremendous amounts about cars and other things. I feel like I've lost a good friend...and I have. I wondered why they suddenly retired two years ago, and now I know that Tommy had Alzheimer's. RIP Tommy, you will be missed.

The brothers were unique and will be greatly missed by this listener. It was always fun listening to the problem a caller had and trying to guess what I thought the problem was then comparing it to what the "experts" thought. They were a throwback to old time radio; I always thought it must have been like my father listening to Jack Benny or Burns and Allen.
R.I.P. Tommy. It was like I knew you.

I heard about it on the way home from work yesterday, and teared up. I feel like I lost a family member. What I like most about that show is that the brothers reminded me of folks back home in New England where I grew up, and in Mass where I went to college. They used the classic self-depricating and good-natured teasing approach typical in the immigrant communities like Boston, where you have to give everyone a hard time and have fun doing it (after college, I learned to be careful with this approach in other parts of the country, as not everyone catches on that you're joking and having fun).

When I moved south, hearing Car Talk always reminded me of home, and no matter what, those guys could cheer me up and keep me entertained. As they probably would have said, after an hour of their show, anything else has got to sound good! I'm sure that "big dope" Tommy is off somewhere laughing and having a good time.

RIP Tommy. Loved the show, and listened almost every week. Sad news.

My dad got me listening to them in the early 90's. He would laugh til he cried while listening to them every Saturday morning. When I listen to them I always think of my dad.

Sorry to see Tommy go and hope the repeats go on for a long time

Too bad. I really liked the radio show and read the column in the Sunday paper often.

Started listening when they first hit the air and talked about working on VW bugs- swapping engines etc. Always enjoyed them!
