Just to help others...I've learned the expensive way...
The Han-D-Pump offered by Northern Tool will work only on cans that have a vent plug built into the can. Most Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. 5 gallon jugs are mfg by Blitz and are "self-ventilating". This means they don't have a vent plug. The Han-D-Pump won't work.

However, the Flo-n-Go mfg by Sceptor has the self ventilating feature made into the cap and will work with the "self-ventilating" Blitz containers. The Flo-n-Go kit (including a 3 gal can) is available at Wal-Mart for about $19.

Both of these models require the jug to be placed higher than the fueling intake to allow for gravity flow after you've started a suction.

Man, that is funny, I swear everytime I pump the handle on my Han-D-Pump diesel fuel flows into my tractor. I guess it isn't. Wonder what the tractor is running on? If the fuel isn't going into the tractor, where is it going? I have to keep filling the Blitz can up every couple of weeks????? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Now, now, that's not the proper way to great a new member, is it? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Is your Blitz can an older one with a vent? Mine have vents but the new cans don't.

Nope, it is only about 2 years old and it doesn't have the vent.

So Thunderbird, why wouldn't the Han-D-Pump work? Perhaps not screwing it down tightly might allow some venting to take place?

I don't know why his didn't work, but I usually screw mine on about as tight as it'll go. If I go to tight, it'll eventually slip off the threads. It'll still leak a little bit around the spout if I slosh the can around so when I take it to get filled I usually put the original pour spout back on. Now something I did try was to use my Hand-D pump on my 15 gal barrel. It wouldn't/couldn't build up enough vacuum to siphon the fuel.

I use a Han-D-Pump in both ventilated (older) and "self-ventilated" (newer) cans. I added about 6' of hose to the somewhat short stock hose and keep the cans on a cart/flat wagon. I just wheel the cans along side the tractor and pump till full. No lifting. It is not a siphon. It does not need to be higher than the tank being filled.

I recently returned a Flo-N-Go to Wally World. None of the adapters would fit an older Chilton can. The product is falsely advertised as "no lifting required". That might be true if it were a real pump and not a siphoning device. There was some other 3rd problem with the F-N-G, which slips my mind.

I'm quite happy with Han-D-Pumps. I've gotten mine from TSC. Is it even possible we are even discussing the same Han-D-Pump, given the vastly different desciption you've offered?

Where did you get your 15 gallon Barrel?
I'm looking for a 12 to 18 gallon barrel or other container for my diesel fuel.

Take a look at US Plastics Corp. I just got the 30 gallon version.

15, 30 and 55 gal closed head poly drums

I haven't had either of these problems with my han d pump. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
