Hang on to that old tractor

It might be worth some real money some day. This is a tractor that was on ebay. The auction finished with the reserve not met, so someone thinks this old tractor is worth more then 180k. Is it?

I wonder if old neat tractors are going to go the way of old neat cars. Affordable to collectors but not to the hobbyist.

This is very interesting since JD didn't really enter the tractor business until the introduction of the Waterloo Model R in 1915. The drive wheels were in the back and this tractor would go for 50,000 up.The tractor on ebay looks like a tractor called the Dain tractor. This company was acquired by Deere in 1912 and Dain was selected to head engineering on a motor cultivator.The JD name became a permanent name in 1924 with the modelD. I may be wrong but I don't believe the 100 or so Dains that were built were called John Deeres. If this tractor is an original Dain I would not be surprised if it will bring $150,000 up. I think this is the tractor I saw at Farmfest a couple of years ago. There is some debate on when 'John Deere' started & all, but the owner saw this thing in the fencerow for decades, and finally got ahold of it. Was a long story with it, & JD seems to go along with it really being a JD. I believe they were looking to sell it back then, & would have wanted an extra zero on that price at that time.

Again, if my memory serves me right.... Actually saw it drive around a bit.
