Hello all,

Somewhere, sometime before I read that someone hung their finish mower in their barn/garage for storage. I tried doing a search, but no luck.

Since I won't be mowing any snow covered lawn this winter, I was thinking about hanging the mower from the rafters using a "come-along" type system. My question is has anyone done this already and does anyone know if rafters will hold a 5' pull behind finish mower.

Thanks!

A 60” mower would weigh around 3 to 400 lbs. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif That would be a lot of weight to hang from rafters without reinforcement of the rafters to the floor.

I remember the post concerned a BX2200 mid mount mower. It was actually hung on a wall with one section resting on the floor. There was a picture of the arrangement. If I recall correctly, it had one side on the floor (the mower being wider than long).

As far as hanging your mower from a come-along..that's a lot of weight concentrated in one spot...not a particularly good idea.

I suggest you look into propping it up against a sside wall somehow instead.

Actually I was thinking about running a chain around 3 of the rafters....but still probably not a good idea.

I guess I was fishing to see if anyone has done something similar to this. Proping in up on end is a good idea, though. My only concern would the gear oil leaking out.

Thanks anyhow for the replies!

Mike -- I don't have a comealong, but at the end of the year I roll my LP 2572FDR to the back of my garage and use the FEL to stand it on its tail before using a pair of straps to secure it in that position. All the weight is on the floor, with the straps just keeping it there in case it gets bumped. For safety, I also chock the bottom edge. That position, as luck would have it, has the seals aimed straight up so leakage isn't an issue; it's also great for servicing the blades and baffles.

I hang my 6' MMM deck from a beam in the basement of my shop. I use a chain fall to hoist it up. The vent is on the high side so I get no leaks. Works great for getting more floor space. See attached photo.
