I actually DID think about you when I was typing that. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That's why I typed "14" rather than FOURTEEN .

Sorry you can't make it. But then if you did, then we'd have FIFTEEN ! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

This could get way too confusing. I'll just leave it at ...Have a Great Turkey Day! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A story for Thanksgiving......

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift.

The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse
vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was
rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude
by consistently saying only polite words, playing
soft music and anything else he could think of to
"clean up" the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the
parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the
parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder.

John, in desperation, threw up his hands, grabbed
the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few
minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.

Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was
heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the
parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's
outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have
offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm
sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate
transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I
can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's
attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had
made such a dramatic change in his behavior,
the bird continued....

"May I ask what the turkey did?"

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL.

Something that this site has in common that I belive is a mostly American trait. Learn how to do new things that are not in your field of expertise. In Germany, you don't work on your own car. Only the dealer who represents that car company will work on it. Americans will tackle anything. I am very thankful for this and how it is shown in the spirit of this site.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I agree with BobRip that it seems to be a unique "American" trait to tackle anything, but I'd like to thank all the immigrants that brought so much to this Great County and contributed their cultures, strengths and ways of doing things so that we now have all this to draw on. Diversity has been a great condition that we Americans have put to such effective use.

My ancestors came from Germany, England, France and aboriginal I think that I have traits that can be traced directly from all of them that make me who I am and make me so much like the rest of you people.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One of our greatest challenges is, and has been, to effectively blend all those unique traits into a real American!

Iron by itself is weak and brittle. Carbon by itself is brittle and weak. But blend them, and fire them, and they create tough and strong steel!

If you just put flour, oil, eggs, sugar, and leavening into a bowl, you don't have a cake, you have a mess! But by carefully blending and baking, over time, you can produce a most delicious result!!

Thankfully our ancestors, for the most part, strived to and succeeded in removing their hyphens, rather than embracing, enhancing, and glorifying them!!!! George Washington was the first American president, not the first British-American, or Caucasian-American, president!!!!

Thank You God for our many blessings! Please continue to bless these UNITED States of America!!!!

PS: Although all my ancestors for over 140 years in America have been German, I am proud to say that I am an American, who is not hyphenated, does not drink beer, and only occasionally eats sauerkraut!!

( I want to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. The original settlers feasted and gave thanks to God for their many blessings and new relationship with the native Americans. Although our lives today are very different, much is the same.

In this country, we have SO much to be thankful for. Our relationships, freedom, standard of living, and so on...

Maybe take moment to think about what we all have. Sure, our country could improve on many things, but it is still the best place in the world to live.

Thanksgiving is a time of positive reflection and thanks to God for what we have.

Be careful when you drive as this is the most traveled weekend of the year, be safe!
