For those of you who have bought this helmet for $50 is it a good helmet. I see it is adjustable from #4 to #9 to #13. Is there any in between like #10. # 13 would be to dark to dark and #9 to light.

The two that I have are infinitely adjustable from 9 to 13. There's no set steps. (Other than a guide printed on the switch label.) But yes, there is an indication for 10, 11 & 12 on the label. The #4, I believe, refers to the darkness of the lens when off.

I have two infinitely adjustable ones also and I wouldn't weld without one. OK, I probably couldn't weld with a conventional helmet.

The knob fell of one of them so I have no clue what level I am at. It doesn't matter what the number is I just put it where it is comfortable.

I hmm...d and haw...d over the specs and the especially the darkening time when I bought the first one. I don't think it really matters. I personally wouldn't worry about the range or the infinitely adjustable feature. I would rate it one of the better products HF sells and definitely worth the cost!

It's pretty rare to find someone who isn't happy with it. The few are usually people who have a lot more money than I do.

I have the one with the blue flames or whatever that goes on sale for $49.99 every now and then. It's a nice helmet with a good sized viewing area.

I was wondering about those helmets, I'm still stuck in time I use a dark shield... no auto anything.

I purchased the Harbor Freight Auto Dark Welding Helmut on sale for $39.99 and at first I found my self noding it down to weld, ( Force of Habit ). I since then have disiplined myself to keep it down. I've been welding for 40 plus years. This helmut is " THE BEST ". You set it in the sun to charge it and you can adjust the darkness of the view port. Great Deal!!! Buy one and you won't be sorry.

I bought the auto darkening blue flame helmet from HF for under $40. It is fantastic; instantaneous on/off. Like Frankdozer I just got to learn that I don't have to nod the thing down. I also bought the 130 amp (I think that is what it is) DC inverter welder for $159 (I no longer see it advertised on their website the smaller unit still is). For the handy homeowner, the welder is amazing; under 15 lbs, DC only, a high duty cycle, and can burn 1/8 7018 rods with no issue. I can also use it on a 30 amp 220v circuit; some of the buzz boxes take 50 amps.

I tried one of the skull shaped helmets for some odd reason when my other had been run over for the last time. I didn't like that one at all! Wasn't solar powered, had to remember to turn it on,the window was too small and set at an odd angle for me. It was also big and clunky. Went back and bought the regular old cheap one.
I try to hang it up.....

Working fine for the past two years. I think they were 59 dollars when they came out. May have to get a second back up if they dip into the forties. Great helmet !
