I did search but didn't really find anything on this. Perhaps that right there is the answer to my question, but.

If you have a Harbor Freight PTO generator, how loud is it?

I'm surprised by how loud mine is. It is at least as loud as the tractor. Not so much that I can't run the thing, but enough that I'm on the fence it may not be normal. However I have absolutely no baseline to compare it to. The noise has no correlation with the load.

The cheaper PTO generators are 2-pole units, and spin at 3600rpm. So they whine something fierce. That is normal. You pay more, and larger PTO generator which are 4-pole genheads spin at 1800rpm.

Okay, thank you. Whining something fierce is exactly what it does. I got this at a deep discount so I still have the option to sell it. If I do I was looking at the IMD PTO 22/2 S AVR. Do you happen to know if those are the 4-pole variety? IMD PTO 22/2 S AVR - 22kW Tractor-Driven PTO Generator w/ AVR 540 RPM

Umm, I don't know. I would make contact and ask. Usually a 4-poll genhead is a major selling point. Say you go to the Baumalight PTO website, they list 2-pole units, and 4-pole units.
4-pole 30kw unit running a 19kw load.

Okay thank you. I see it now. The 4-pole are significantly more expensive so the 22kw IMD must also be a 2-pole. Thanks for your insight.
