just wondering dose any one wear a hard hat while operating, in the woods i think it will be something i start doing even if just working buy had around trees or if im cutting on one for sure.

no i did not have a close call i have been taking my msha new minor trining and we have to were hard hats from the car to the building, even though its not an active mine. so it just seams unwise to go bumping in to trees in the woods and not protect your head.

just in case any one did not know you can get a hard hat for 5-7 dollars at lowe's or hd

Normally I wear a climbing helmet which is lighter, has more air holes and has a chin strap to keep it on. Keeps the sun from the bald pate. Put on a fleece toque underneath it and its very warm. It also gives some protection when slipping on ice and falling backwards.:D

use one all the time while cutting wood. Window makers can really ruin a day.

I wear a hard hat with ear muffs and a face screen when I'm cutting in the woods. It's hot but I really like the safety aspect. Thankfully it's never really had to prove itself but I'm ok with that too!

NOTE: The ear protection is the big win on a day to day basis and the screen keeps twigs and sawdust etc out of my face.

Don't know how many times I've just bumped into a tree w/ the tractor and something came down. Usually if my tractors in the woods I'm cutting so I try to remember to pull a helmet on

When I first got my tractor almost 2 years ago I went into the bush to make a walking path. We have had a number of trees or tops of trees die, mostly alder, in the last few years. Was about 10-15 feet away for any tree and a branch came down right on my head. Was not windy. It was a fairly big branch and knocked me out for a minute? Sort of remember getting the tractor back to the house, had a concussion. For over thirty years that I have been cutting trees always wore a hard hat with face screen and ear muffs as well as safety glasses. Just not thinking about branches coming down because I was not cutting trees. One week after this happened I was walking down our driveway and just blacked out, woke up picking myself off the ground. That was from having that concussion.
