I just acquired a clean well maintained Beaver, but with the temps in the 30's here it is harder to start than my other 2cyl diesels. Here is where things stand:
With my battery charger/jumper hooked up (to ensure I am not suffering a bad battery) I had to do 2 rounds of glow plug for about 1 full minute, then crank for nearly 10 seconds at full throttle - lots of smoke - and it reluctantly fired up /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. Once running it does not smoke at any RPM, only slight smoke when I jab at the throttle.
The glow plug indicator works, and the wires leading to the plugs look good.
1st question - how well do Beavers start cold?
2nd - how can I test that the plugs are working?
3rd - this machine has a plug in heater that seems to warm the intake (havent used) how long should such a thing be plugged in to be effective?
Thanks for all your help
- for background info, my previous Kubota and Hinimoto 2cyl diesels would start pretty quickly with just one round of 1minute glow, less than 5 seconds cranking.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
