1978 212 John Deere lawn tractor
Hi fellow BTN members. I'm a proud owner of a used 1978 212 j.d. lawn tractor. Model C212G. I've encountered only one real issue thus far. When I go to start lawn mower it is very difficult to find correct neutral gear position to get the mower started. I often have to tinker with the gear shifter lever between gear 3 and 4 and wiggle until I find the neutral starting position. Its not the end of the world, but is very annoying! I'm really hoping its just some loose linkage or something. Let me know what you think. Takes me about 2 or 3 mins to tinker with to start in neutral.

Likely it is a loose switch or linkage, as you suspect.

Could jumper over it, and just have it start in any position.. just have to remember to put the clutch in or indeed have it in neutral to start.
We have been dumbed-down with all these pc safety devices.

Thanks for the response. That's my only issue so far... she is a good old John Deere and hope to get many more years out of her!
