I have found in my area up here in the boonies people are very helpful and many times do things for nothing. I have been working on things outside and it isn't uncommon for a couple of trucks to pull in the yard and a guy or two will jump out and offer a hand for an hour and not take anything for there help. The saying up here is, "pay it forward" and that's just what I do..
