I'm looking at getting either a small 5th wheel or travel trailer to convert to primarily a toy hauler and "break room with a/c". I want to be able to drive it to one of my lots, roll my little tractor out and do some forestry work. And if it get's hot or I want a break, I've got a break room. Then park the tools and tractor in it at night.

Has anyone else done this?

Any pointers? Pittfalls?

thanks

Usually, TTs and 5th wheels have light duty axles with low capacities and fairly limited height. For the same money, and a lot less work you could get a good sized flatbed trialer and mount the body of a small TT on it or a used truck camper on it. Or, get a regular enclosed trailer and just close and condition the front.

Maybe you could look at Work and Play toy haulers, which look more like enclosed trailers.

Whatever you decide on, please post pics!!

Watch how you load it! I think that you could get away with a couple of four wheelers, but a tractor? There's not much of a frame on most campers, that is, it's fine (and designed) for being a camper, just that.

Thanks for the replies.

I had been searching CL and found several 1990 era TT and 5'vers for about $3K.

And my tractor only weighs about a ton w/ extras.

Had you considered a horse trailer with living quarters? They have low strong floors for easy horse loading? Lots of them around also.

We have a friend that gets in several low milage state trucks. My brother and I have bought several trucks from him. My brother got a service truck a 2 ton and had walkin service box. It had a roof mount AC and heater unit and cab access. It had a ramp to load a small tractor actually we loaded a 3130 Kubota int he back to haul it. He picked it up for 4000.

I know of a man that has a horse trailer and does this with his tractors. He did have a school bus that he got from the county. He put a generator and ac unit in it and built in ramps. He used to drive down here an hour away and unload his tractor and camp. ALl inclosed. Later a tree fell on the back of the bus and he cut the back down and put on a ramp style car hauler bed. He left a good portion of the bus body for a full RV/workshop. I always though it would be a good way to have an RV and tractor hauler all in one.

You're right. That could be a cheap way to go. There's been a couple of those I've seen somewhere. Used to haul rock climbers or.....
