Is it a two stroke I am guessing?

Let me restate, I bet it is a two stroke and your timing is off, most likely a sheared flywheel key and it is happier running backwards.

That is my idea at least.

My Eathquake has a coupling to the motor on the auger and a separate bit for the tip. Looks like you have the bits reversed. Turn the thing end for end maybe?

I think I may have an answer to your question. In a single gear reduction system, the output direction is opposite to the input. In a double gear reduction system, the output direction turns the same as the input, or motor. I also have a left hand auger bit. Don't know what auger it was used with. There is no difference with the operation of the bit, it digs like the right turning bit. I also have the Earthquake auger head, and two auger bit. A hydraulic motor could turn either bit in the direction of the flutes, by reversing hyd flow.

yes it is a two stroke
and i do know you can run a 2 stroke both ways most of the time but the mag will only spark going one way on this one and you cant turn it around

the motor is turning the right way ( to the right )
and the way the gearbox is made the motor will only go on one way and only on one side
and even if i did turn it around i would still have the same problem

it has the motor shaft coming into the gear box with a gear on it going to another gear that go's yet again to another gear that go's to the gear that is on the shaft coming out that you connect the bit to
so four gears in all
motor turns to the right the next gear to the left the next gear to the right and the out put gear and shaft turning to the left
with no way of taken one out or putting one in
i cant take a pic of it right now because its at a friend of mine house about 35to 40 miles away were we had wanted to use it to drill about 16 holes with a bit i had from my first one.
lol we got everything ready put the bit on started it up started drilling and after about 5 minuets of pushing with all we had and only going in about 1.5 inch and thinking " man this is some really hard ground " looked at the bit and saw it turning the wrong way ( now i know why i got it for only 80 bux at the swap meet )
thanks guys i guess i'll look into making one for it
thanks gary...

Yes I own one! Many ice augers are Left Hand spiralling, with the power head turning counterclockwise to match. But there are some now-obsolete left hand auger bits and heads no longer made/no parts that, back in the 50's and even 60's, were EARTH AUGERS. Own one/no parts. Question: what is the diameter of your LH auger bit?
Guess at its overall length? You got my curiosity and I hope this helps answer your puzzle! Can you kindly let me know? Thanks, Leonardo Santi PS Sorry to be responding to your question so late, but I just joined today, Jan 28, 2014.

Those were manufactured for only a short while as a post hole filler. The didn't work well with a post in the hole.

I was thinking maybe it was Australian. Things turn backwards down under!
