I have traded my Deere model 500 Industrial backhoe loader for a 310c deere backhoe loader and am looking for a vehicle that is capable of hauling it comfortably...I am going to be buying a new trailer as well.. I'm looking at 24K for truck and trailer. should I be looking only at DRW trucks or would a SRW truck work? It would not be an every day event that I haul the machine, 6 or 7 times a year, less than 100 miles one way... The backhoe would also be the heaviest that I haul.. I'm thinking that a DRW truck is the way to go.

I think your backhoe weight is around 17,000 pounds. You are not going to be legal or safe pulling it with a 450 truck with electric brakes trailer. You need at least a 9 ton tri axel trailer. You also need a truck with enough power to get you going then you need to panic stop all that weight because some jerk pulled out in front of you and now wants to make a left hand turn with on coming traffic.

according to deere, its 12500.my 500 was 9 and I had no problem with a 14K deckover. I'm thinking a 25+5 Gooseneck trailer with tandem duals for the trailer..the more that I think of it, a DRW truck is needed.

You should be able to pull this no problem with the proper trailer and the right SRW one ton or larger. My truck has a 18,000# tow rating and you could bet your BH on the trailer and keep the weight at 17,000# or so. This is not a big deal, done all the time around here.

Sounds like you have the right idea. A DRW truck and a gooseneck trailer with tandem duals should work very well. My guess is that the 12,500# is a 2wd without a cab, both of which would add some weight. Also, chains to chain it down can weigh a couple hundred pounds pretty easily so I would figure on a load of at least 13k. It looks like you would be fine with 10k axels for the weight you are talking about but if you can I would get 12k axels.

I have a 310C. Given a choice as you have, I chose a DRW. The truck's towing capacity is based on its pulling power. BUT...You will need a truck that can carry the hitch weight of a loaded trailer. Unless you can accurately load the backhoe on the trailer to keep the hitch weight from overloading the truck's rear axle... go with the dually. The dual wheels add a lot of stability while driving too.

I would also recommend a Dually, along with a 25+ 5 tandem dually gooseneck.

Works great for me!

Just so happens one of my contractors has a 410C. He hauls it with this rig.

Looks like a relatively inexpensive setup to me. Of course, he stays off the interstates and travels the state/county highways most of the time.
