So, the wife says, put a garbage bag in each bucket and use a twisty tie to close them up.

Didn't spill a drop after that. 4 trips later the stock tank was filled up and the horses were happy.

That's a great idea! Your wife's pretty smart. :D

I like ronmar's plywood baggle idea.

is this a 104g rectangular metal tank.. like any farm stores sell?

In any case.. to xport it full, get some plastic sheeting.. "visqueen'.. and then place it over the full tank then take some roap.. or a few bunji cords and go around the circumference. Even a rope and 1- bunji cord for constant tension would work.. will minimize loss.. etc..

Are you against going to TSC and buying a tank?

you might be surprised how quick you go through that 100 gal.

in short i think youd do much better with one of these

perhaps a 300 gal version... (cuts your trips by a third, and extends the time between trips by a third...or are those the same thing?) will run ya bout 325....

Remember that water weighs about 8 lbs/gal, so that is a 2600 lb payload.

These may be hard to find in your area but around here they are found quite frequently, sometims for giveaway. I know the ones I have came from a water treatment plant so I use them to haul water to fill my sons pool, 400 gal at a time. They have a common fitting, I think 1 1/2" that I reduced down to a garden hose size so I can supply my presure washer and also water the garden with them. They are called IBC's but I'm not sure what that stand for.
Might be handy if you need a long term solution.

Rich

I was thinking along the same lines as this.

You could probably get a couple of these IBC's in a trailer.

The big ones take about 1000 litres / 265 gallons.

They are about a metre cubed in size.

I think they would be easier then trying to convert a stock tank into a water carrier.

BTW, IBC stands Intermediate Bulk Container

I see a lot of those IBC cubes on ebay (searched on 'IBC water' and '275 water'). They are more expensive than I expected - $140 for non-potable and $185 for potable. If I had to move water continually I would put one of those on a trailer.
