I'm looking to build a conveyer to use for piling split wood with. I have plenty of 5 to 7 HP side shaft motors to work with and was toying with using old snowmobile tracks for conveyor belting. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks:D

I would think a old silage conveyor or corn elevator would make a nice start.

Welcome to TBN!

I was working on firewood Tuesday and thought about one also... It could be used to load a trailer and used when stacking wood in a shed... My woodsheds are 10ft high in the back, and 12ft high in the front.. I'm having to stand on a ladder to stack it.

One reason I would like to have one is to help cut down on handling the wood so much. When I split it I throw it on the ground, then later I load it in a trailer, and then unload it at the shed.

I seen this one on youtube Tuesday night.

Look at the Volkswagen beside the conveyor with the tracks on it:D:D

Couple of questions.

1. How far do you need to go, or how long do you need this to be?

2. How wide does it need to be to be? My guess would be 24".

If you are going any kind of distance, say 20' or more , I'd look at some auctions for farm equipment. Trying to build one from scratch is a bear.

I am with Duffster ... modifying old farm equipment would seem to be the simplest way to go ... but maybe not. It would be nice to have one around

I would also check eBay ... there are several there for a couple of hundred bucks

I had thought about an old hay conveyor. I have seen a few in the past pretty cheap, but now that I'm really interested I can't find any locally. I did check out the ones on "youtube", holy cow, there are some interesting units out there. My budget is really limited, but I may just keep looking and waiting. My thanks to all of you.

Now, not only do I need to build a firewood conveyor......... I also need to build a VW bug on tracks/skis !!

Something tells me that guy is a little more 'handy' than I am.

Tuesday when I was splitting firewood. I thought about a conveyor, and then come on here & find a thread about building one:D

One would be very handy.. Because I handle my wood too much.

Yea that's a nice VW:D... I wonder what else he's built.
